In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Glory Be to the Father Prayer

Introduction

The glory be to the father prayer is one of the shortest yet most profound prayers in the Catholic tradition. It offers pure praise to the Holy Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—and reminds the faithful that all glory belongs to God, both now and forever. This prayer has been cherished for centuries, prayed in the Rosary, the Liturgy of the Hours, and personal devotion. Simple in form, it expresses a deep truth: God is eternal, holy, and worthy of all worship.

Scripture Foundation

“To the King of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”
1 Timothy 1:17 (RSV-CE)

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God the Almighty, who was and is and is to come.”
Revelation 4:8 (NABRE)

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-7494970885522256"

“Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised.”
Psalm 48:1 (NRSV-CE)

“For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be glory forever.”
Romans 11:36 (RSV-CE)

Catholic Reflection

The glory be to the father prayer is a doxology—a prayer of praise that glorifies the Trinity. It reminds believers that God is eternal: He was, He is, and He always will be. Praying the “Glory Be” helps the heart shift from concerns to praise, from distraction to worship, and from the temporal to the eternal.

This prayer also expresses the unity of God’s work throughout time. “As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be” affirms that God’s love, mercy, and power remain constant. Even when life changes, God does not. When prayed with intention, the “Glory Be” becomes a moment of contemplation, lifting the soul toward the mystery of God’s presence.

Catholic spirituality invites believers to weave this prayer into daily life: moments of thanksgiving, transitions throughout the day, or quiet pauses during work. It is a reminder that everything begins with God, is sustained by God, and returns to God in glory.

Main Catholic Prayer

God our eternal Father,
You are worthy of all praise,
and through Your Son, Jesus Christ,
You reveal the fullness of Your love.
Send forth the Holy Spirit
to draw my heart into deeper worship as I pray.

With the Church throughout the world, I offer the traditional doxology:

“Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now,
and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.”

Lord, may this prayer fill my heart with gratitude and reverence.
Teach me to praise You in every moment—
in joy and in trial, in work and in rest.

maryMary, Mother of the Church, pray for me as I give glory to God.
All holy saints and angels, join me in praising the Most Holy Trinity.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Catholic Devotional Addition

Short Act of Praise
“Holy Trinity, one God, I adore You.”

Closing Blessing

May Almighty God bless you, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
